Delicious Cookies - A Review of Loretta's homemade goodies.

by - 18:02:00

Hey everyone, hope you're doing well! I don't write about food that often but I did mention a few posts ago that I became vegetarian in January (Post: Why I became a Vegetarian). People say to me now, do you miss meat, have you craved it at all...? Honestly, I haven't. I've been out to eat a fair bit too and I still haven't gone to a restaurant and craved a meal with meat in it - most restaurants are so good with vegetarian food nowadays.

So, today the WONDERFUL Loretta has sent me some amazing goodies of traditional Malaysian recipes and I'm going to give you a little review of them! I can tell how much love she has put into these homemade goodies, the design of the cookies themselves are so cute and pretty, the flavours are all so delicious, the packaging is also so cute and fits perfectly inside the bags/boxes, and I can tell how much passion Loretta puts into her baking.

This is a honest review for gifted items*

The Cookies

Peanut Cookies (Vegan) ~ Contains Flour, peanuts, vegetable oil & sugar.
Kuih Bangkit (Vegetarian) ~ Vegetable shortening, sugar, eggs, flour, coconut milk, pandan & salt.
Cranberry Cookies (Vegetarian) ~ Butter (milk), sugar, eggs, flour, cranberries coconut, vanilla & leavening agents.
Dragon Balls (Vegan) ~ Flour, seasame, mung beans, vegetable oil, salt, sugar & onions.

When I first had a look at Loretta's shop I found it very intriguing! I remember seeing the 'Dragon Balls' and I thought to myself, what are those? Also I had no idea what the Kuih Bangkit recipe was either but it was all very exciting, I was looking forward to giving them all a try. I know in the picture above I have a cool light box stating Vegan Cookies and only two lots of them are vegan, but I got too excited and ate them all so now I can't take another picture okay lol!

The package arrived and they all had their own packaging and looked very cute, I wasn't expecting so many, but when I opened the little boxes/bags there were so many cookies! They are all vegetarian, but two of them are vegan (The peanut cookies and the Dragon Balls).

Peanut Cookies (Vegan)

These were absolutely delicious. They are very flavoursome despite the size of them, with a mixture of sweet and nutty so the peanut taste wasn't overpowering. If you like peanut butter, you'll definitely like these. They're crumbly in the way a cookie should be, and honestly, they are so tasty! These were the first I tried and finished them all very quickly with the help of my partner.

You can get a 200g jar of these delicious cookies for £7 which is a fab price.

Kuih Bangkit

These were the second ones I tried (as you can tell, I'm writing them in the order that I tasted them). I had no idea what these would be like, I've never heard of them before so was very excited to give them a go! I love the designs on these, the flowers are so cute and pretty. These have a subtle taste and I'm not even sure what to compare them too... they just taste like biscuits. Very moreish, and there were so many of them in the box!

Cranberry Cookies

If you like cookies and cranberries, you'll love these. They're sweet, I'd describe them as a typical homemade cookie. They have that sweet cookie taste and the cranberries give them that extra yummy-ness. My partner got a glass of milk to dip these in, they are good dipping cookies for sure.

Dragon Balls (Vegan)

The name of these were very intriguing. I had no idea what they would taste like, just from looking at them they looked like dough balls - so that was my first thought before tasting them. Loretta advised that you could either eat these cold, or warm them up for 12-15 minutes in the oven, cool and then try them. I decided to heat them up! These tasted both sweet and savoury to me - whether they are supposed to or not? However, I LOVED them. These were my favourites, I can't even describe the taste to you, it was kind of like eating a pie because of the 'pastry' texture but as I said, it tasted both savoury and sweet. These were delicious and I could eat loads of them.

If you're still looking for Mother's Day gifts Loretta has some lovely cookie gifts that all look very cute. I think I'm going to buy the Dragon Balls in Gift Pack as it's something different, and I'm sure my mum will love them. The gift packaging itself too looks very cute!

If I had to pick a favourite out of these, I'd go with the Dragon Balls and the Peanut Cookies but they all taste great and I am very grateful for Loretta for letting me try them.

Follow the amazing Loretta and I'd recommend you buying her lovely homemade treats!

  13. The peanut butter ones sound lovely and I'm intrigued by the dragon balls. They do look like mini dough balls! My favourite cookies have to be chocolate chip ones, preferably double chocolate chip, the more chocolate the better!

  15. Those look so delightful! I think these would make a great Mother's Day gift. My mom likes cranberry and she's not big on sweets, so I think the cranberry option would be suitable for her :) My all time favorite cookie is the one I get at a local bakery, it's Corrigan Coffee cookie, it has expresso and chocolate...so good! Thanks for sharing a new healthy option of us with a big sweet tooth Chloe, really enjoyed the post <3
